THE BACKGROUND
Along with the rapid increase in numbers of Chinese-speaking tourists
visiting Japan in recent years, the numbers of these tourists
visiting a stadium to watch Japanese pro baseball team
Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters have increased more than ten times
over the last three years. However, because most of these Chinese-speaking
tourists don’t understand Japanese, they don’t enjoy the game 100%.
THE SOLUTION
Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters collaborated with
EPSON to create the GLASS SHEET, a special sheet
that allows spectators to enjoy the game wearing
smart glasses displaying real-time flash updates of the
game and player information translated into Chinese.
THE RESULT
This news has created a buzz not only in Japan but in the
Chinese-speaking world too, and has had a PR effect of more than $2.5 million.
The news has sparked many inquiries from other baseball teams,
stadiums and overseas tourist-targeting businesses
wanting to implement the glasses themselves.
